Speed in Parking Lot

Now that summer vacation has arrived, we have seen an increase in numbers and speed of automobiles entering the Nilles Road entrance by the school and speeding around the back of the school to exit the River Road exit so as to avoid the traffic light.  I assume they think it is less likely that they will encounter children or pedestrians in the lot when school is out.  We have signs at the entrances stating, “No thru Traffic” but few seem to read these.  The excessive speed can create an unsafe condition especially as we approach festival time.  Please remind your neighbors that we have 24/7 cameras monitoring the lot and those who speed through the lot as well as police who sometimes watch for those speeding through the lot.

Vacation Bible School

This year Sacred Heart will join St. Ann in our Pastoral Region Vacation Bible School to take place at St. Ann.  We are now registering students for VBS.  Please see registration process defined in this bulletin.

Reflection on Scripture

Jesus promised he would not leave us “orphans” but by the power of the
Holy Spirit make us into his family.  We talk about the “family of the Church” as well as the new Feast named “Mary the Mother of the Church.”  In today’s gospel, Jesus asks “Who are my mother and brothers?”  He then tells us the answer that we (who hear the word of God and keep it) are his family.

Families are historically defined by consanguinity.  We are family in the Blood of Christ through the Eucharist.  St. Paul also says that we are children of Abraham not by blood, but by faith.  Our faith in Jesus Christ and our unity in the Body and Blood of the Lord, make us family in one faith, one hope, and one love.
