Volunteer for Sacred Heart Festival Please consider volunteering to festival set-up the week of Monday, August 10 and following.  Please also consider volunteering to help with the festival the 14, 15, and 16th.   Help share the burden. With everyone working together and everyone helping, we are sure to have a successful festival.  Let’s make sure we are all praying for great weather.

Presentation on Obergefell v. Hodges I want to offer my sincere gratitude to John Benintendi for a thorough yet very understandable presentation last Sunday evening on the ramifications the SCOTUS decision on marriage may have as regards the Catholic Church.  Thanks for all who came to the presentation to be better informed.  We will hear more about this from Archbishop Schnurr and the USCCB in weeks and months to come.

 Reflection on Scripture

God gave the Israelites manna from Heaven every morning and quail every evening except on the Sabbath.  God made certain no one would go hungry.  We see in the manna a foreshadowing of the Eucharist.  Jesus gives us the gift of the Eucharist so we will never go spiritually hungry.  But there is another parallel.  God is the only source of food for the Israelites on the desert.  They rely totally upon God.  We live today relying totally on God.  Any farmer will tell you that he can’t feed you without the help of God.  Any astronomer will tell you that an asteroid or comet could impact the earth and there would be no life.  In the face of such fears, some will say, “Well I will rely on science or modern medicine.  I have no need for God.”   Remember that without God wanting us to, we don’t even exist!  The more you think about reality, the more you realize that you need God.
