Attendance at Masses at Sacred Heart showed a decline again this year. The decline averaged about 34 per Mass, with the greatest decline at the 10:00 a.m.
Please remember to call or email the names and hospitals of parishioners who are admitted as inpatients. Telling me at the door of church won’t work. The information must come on my voice mail or email.
The infant pre-baptism class for first time parents or those who have not done the pre-baptism program with an earlier child, takes place on Monday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. in the basement of Sacred Heart Church.
Split the Pot at St. Ann
St. Ann is sponsoring again this year the sale of tickets for Fr. Tharp’s New Year’s Eve Split the Pot. If you like to wager, please consider helping our sister parish in the pastoral region fill the budget gap.
REFLECTION ON SCRIPTURE
The story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath always made me think the prophet was being selfish when he told her to make him a little cake first with the little flower and oil she had left. She and her son could eat the leftovers. What the story points out is not prophetic arrogance, but that we must put God and His word first, and everything else will fall into place. In the gospel, this is what Jesus points out with the widow’s mite. She has put in more than the others because she sacrificed.
Giving excess to the Lord is a humble and worthy habit. Giving our best for the Lord first is the formula for life eternal. Only those who hold fast to God first can let everything else fall into place,
