Sacred Heart Festival

The Festival for Sacred Heart is August 11, 12 & 13.  This is our major annual fundraiser for Sacred Heart Parish and School.   Volunteers will be present to sign up volunteers to operate the various booths and games of chance.  If you can volunteer to handle a booth for an evening that would be great; but even if you can only offer an hour or two, please volunteer.  Even helping with set up and take down saves significant dollars for the bottom line of the festival.

St. Ann Fiesta

Remember that the St. Ann Fiesta is Friday Evening, July 28 and Saturday Evening July 29.  Please support St. Ann’s Fiesta (Festival) as they support Sacred Heart’s Festival.  Supporting each other builds up our mutual pastoral region.

Reflection on Scripture

The parable of the “sower and the seed” appears in all three Synoptic Gospels (Mt 13:1-9, Mk 4:1-9 and Lk 8:4-8).  Similarly the explanation of the parable follows the parable in all three instances.  Jesus uses an agricultural metaphor to explain how God’s Word is sown and the correspondent yield per acre in each planting venue.  God controls where he sows the seed; and God sows the seed of his love everywhere regardless of yield potential.  But we, the recipients, control the context in which we receive it.  If we are living among weeds, whose fault is that?

Do we not have free will?  And if we are emotionally Catholic but refuse to attach to solid grounding in learning and sacrificing for our faith, whose fault is that?  We can easily avail ourselves of the opportunity to learn more about our faith.  And if we make sure we go to Mass, are we not planting ourselves in rich soil?

The parable speaks of the unconditional love of God for humanity and God’s never ending offer of His love.  But the parable also speaks to how we as individuals decide to plant ourselves.  Let’s make sure our planting techniques match our promise to be faithful stewards of the Lord’s seed.
